SSL Nations Ranking December update: Italy climb on to the podium

The latest SSL Nations Ranking has been released, and it sees a change on the podium with Italy displacing the United States, moving up two places to third.

Great Britain (GB) have extended their lead at the top, with a huge 32-point cushion over second placed Spain (ESP), thanks in no small part to Dylan Fletcher-Scott winning the International Moth World Championship in Argentina.

Italian superstar Francesco Bruni finished sixth in the Moth Worlds, which moved him up thirteen places in the SSL Men’s Skipper rankings, catapulting Italy above both The Netherlands and the United States.

The SSL Nations Ranking formula is the addition of the top five ranked Skippers and top two ranked Crew from each Nation in the SSL Global Ranking, to give a points total.

Having 113,000 athletes’ event statistics, gives the SSL the ability to rank nations according to their top sailors and, once a month, the SSL Nations Ranking is released.
