QS 1 - Day 2: Ireland and Antigua win the day

Day 2 of the SSL Gold Cup 2022 Qualifying Series Round 1 crowned two new winners in Grandson, Switzerland. In today's breezy conditions, just one race in each group has been run, and SSL Antigua & Barbuda "Rum Runners" and SSL Team Ireland "Green Armada"  squads made the best of it.

QS Group 1 Race 2 - Ireland and Estonia are in the lead.

In Group 2, Nicholas O'Leary's SSL Team Ireland fired the first shot. The Green Armada resisted SSL Team Estonia's attacks to cruise towards their first victory. The Icebreakers, Day 1 winners, made the best of it to grab the second spot. They preceded SSL Team Belgium. Although The Belgian Sea Devils had a better day than yesterday, they couldn't express their full potential in today's breezy conditions. Penalized at Mark 1, SSL Team Serbia had a lot to do to catch up and stay focused. They did, but the step was too high for the Eagles, the 4th of the race.

After this 2nd race, a gap is growing between SSL Team Ireland "Green Armada"- SSL Team Estonia "Icebreakers" and SSL Team Serbia 'Eagles" - SSL Team Belgium "Belgian Sea Devils". Everything is still possible with two days to go and a last double-point race.

QS Group 2 Race 2 - A close game ahead

Long hours after Group 2's race finished, Group 1 made a very late start (19h00 CET). Just in time for breakfast or lunchtime in all four teams' Islands racing in this group. The Rum Runners from Antigua were the best in these intense conditions, racing in style from the Start. SSL Tahiti 'Black Pearls", last in yesterday's race and Top 56 (and last) team in SSL ranking at this QS but 2nd today, proved their intentions to play the perfect outsiders.

Yesterday, the winner, SSL Team Puerto Rico "Los Boricuas", saved their day with 3rd place in front of SSL Team Bermuda "Privateers", who withdrew from the race. The table is tight, with only a 5-point difference between the first and last of the group.
