For Seychelles, a nation defined by its connection to the ocean, the SSL Gold Cup is more than just a competition, it is a chance to showcase its top athletes and inspire the next generation of island sailors. In 2026, as 40 nations gather for the SSL Gold Cup, Team Seychelles is preparing to prove that even a small nation, powered by its Seychellois sailors in nation can make a powerful impact on the global stage.
Leading SSL Team Seychelles is Allan Julie, one of the country’s greatest sporting figures. A five-time Olympian and seven-time Sportsman of the Year, Julie has been competing internationally for more than 35 years. He represented Seychelles in five Olympic Games, finishing 21st at the Athens 2004 Games, and has dedicated over two decades to coaching and inspiring younger sailors at the local sailing school. As captain, his experience, resilience, and vision now steer Team Seychelles toward the SSL Gold Cup qualifiers.
Around him, the team brings together a unique mix of seasoned athletes. Curtis Allcorn, who first sailed Sunfish in the Caribbean before honing his skills in Seychelles, now serves as main trimmer and tactician on the FarEast 28R. Josue Adeline, a silver medalist in lightweight windsurfing at the 1993 Indian Ocean Island Games and veteran of the demanding Mahé–Praslin ocean crossing, continues to compete actively in the Star Sailors League. Eston Dubel, who began at 13 on mirror dinghies, spent over a decade teaching windsurfing and established a sail repair loft, contributing to the local sailing community both on and off the water. Marie Maryse is sailing in the Radial and 4.7 classes, regularly competing in local regattas. Ian Vital, though new to the sport, has already embraced keelboat sailing on the FarEast 28, driven by determination and a deep passion for life on the water. Jayden Vidot started sailing at 12, mastering both dinghies and yachts, and continues to build his career in the Laser and FarEast 28R classes.
Adding international depth, Justin Joubert, an RYA/MCA Ocean Yachtmaster, balances professional yacht delivery and charter work with his role in the national team, while Joshua Allcorn, one of the youngest sailors on the squad, has already represented Seychelles in six countries, winning podium finishes in national championships and leading at the CJSOI Games. Brian Toussaint, who began sailing Optimists at eight and later turned to windsurfing and Hobie 16s, brings both local and international experience, today working in Seychelles’ maritime tourism sector.
The next step in their journey is clear the qualifiers in Grandson, Switzerland, in July 2026. It is there that Team Seychelles will fight for their ticket to the SSL Gold Cup, determined to turn preparation into qualification and prove that their island nation belongs among the world’s best.
