In a landlocked country surrounded by steppe and desert, sailing might not be the first thing that comes to mind. But SSL Team Kazakhstan is here to challenge expectations and proudly raise their flag on the international sailing stage. The team is preparing to compete in the SSL Gold Cup 2026.
SSL Team Kazakhstan has the Nomad Force in the logo, which reflect both the dynamics of wind and water, as well as the spirit of nomads, freedom, and strength.
„We are entering the world of professional sailing,” said Captain Murat Abdrakhmanov. At the helm of the Kazakh crew is Murat Abdrakhmanov, skipper and visionary leader of the team. His excitement is infectious as he describes the SSL experience:
“It’s very impressive, and I’m so excited to sail on such a perfect carbon boat – it’s like the Formula 1 of sailing. For us, this is a rare opportunity. Kazakhstan is the country farthest from any ocean. We usually sail on artificial lakes or the Caspian Sea, and abroad – on the Mediterranean. So taking part in SSL is huge. We’re truly entering the professional sailing world.”
The crew features a mix of seasoned champion and regatta-hardened sailors: Vladimir Chshankin – multiple ILCA 7 national champion, Ruslan Alekseenko & Anton Gaas – multiple youth champions in ILCA and Optimist, both part of the Kazakh national sailing team, Milana Mamedova – national champion in ILCA 6 and Luch Mini, Master of Sport, Danat Abdrakhmanov – active in major offshore events, Darkhan Kussainov – active grinder and bowman, with experience in the RORC Caribbean 600, Copa del Rey, and Antigua 360, Yevgeniy Galberg – seasoned skipper and pitman with experience across European regattas, Vladimir Rybalka – sailor of the events like Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez and Copa del Rey, Aidos Mukatayev – competitor in the top regattas like RORC Caribbean 600 and Nelson Cup and Gulmira Yerdenova – team manager and media lead for the KZ Yacht Club, with hands-on regatta experience
