Light wind conclusion to 53rd Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by Iberostar

Very light winds curtailed the final day of racing in Palma and the 49erFX, iQFOiL Men and Women and the 470 Mixed events had their medal race cancelled and their standings from Friday stood.

With the ILCA 7 and Nacra 17 titles already won on the previous day, Italy’s Jana Germani and Giorgia Bertezzi sealed the Women’s 49erFX title by a single point and will have been relieved not to have to compete on Saturday. Germani said after the event, “We see that all the training and the hard work is paying off. It's four more months until the Games, and we will push every day for the best result of our career."

The Men’s 49er fleet did get away on Saturday, and a second place in the medal race showdown was enough for Diego Botin and Florian Trittel to seal the title, making it a double for Italy in the skiff fleets.

In the Mixed 470 the French duo of Camille Lecointre and Jeremie Mion denied the Spanish team of Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman taking a home title to add to their World Championship win.

Hungary’s Mária Érdi could only finish ninth in the Women’s ILCA 6 medal race, but it was more than enough to win the title thanks to her earlier consistency. There was a very close battle for the other medals with Australia’s Zoe Thompson grabbing silver, and Great Britain’s Matilda Nicholls bronze thanks to her second place in the meal race. Just 11 points separated second from sixth in this super-tight fleet.
