Big Gains at Day 4 of Worlds

There were so many dimensions on the racecourse on Day 4 – there were major wind shifts, big gusts, lulls and at the same time rolling swell. It was a day that demanded patience, tactical courage and quick thinking.

The Double Olympic Champions, Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze (BRA) were the only team to score all top 10’s on a day where it was so tricky that some teams won a race and then came last in the next.  The Dutch team of Odile van Aanholt and Annette Duetz (NED) have been the most consistent team since Tokyo 2020. With a bullet, 13th and 5th scored in the races today, they now have a 15 point advantage over the reigning World Champions, Vilma Bobeck and Rebecca Netzler (SWE).

There were big gains made in the 49er Class for the Spanish team of Diego Botin and Florian Trittel who scored a 7th and two wins, results that launched them up to second overall, 18 points behind the French Leaders.  While the leading French 49er team made sense of today’s weird conditions, they are probably even stronger in the big breeze. Expect a big fight back from the Dutch who will not yield their crown easily.
