Today was an exciting day in the sailing world today with day 2 of The Bacardi Cup and day 1 of racing at the 2024 49er World Championships!
Our interest in the Bacardi cup is not only that the event was established in 1927 nor is it that this year will see 25 nations in Biscayne Bay, Miami. It is that it is such a high profile event that many of our SSL Captains and sailors compete in. The Star class forms one of the biggest classes at this event; added to it having been an Olympic class is why SSL used the Star class in the early stages of the project.
The 97th Bacardi Cup is breaking records with a record breaking 213 entries. 6 Days of racing kicked off yesterday for the Star Class, followed by the J/70, Melges 24, Snipe, Viper 640 and VX One classes, who open their three-day Bacardi Invitational Regatta on March 7th. This year is not different to others with its usual competitors being sailing legends, World Champions, Olympians and Pros lining up against amateurs. The grand finale will culminate with the awards ceremony and presentation of trophies and class prizes on the podium, on Saturday, March 9th.
