Podium gets rearranged at the 470 Worlds

The second day of racing in the gold fleet was the windiest day the sailors have seen at this event with 18 - 20 knots of breeze. Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman (ESP) revelled in the strongest wind of the regatta and climbed their way into first place.

Tetsuya Isozaki and Yuri Seki thrived in the lighter breeze in the previous days but had a tough day today scoring two 25th places and falling out of the reach of a medal. However, defending World Champions Keiju Okada and Miho Yoshioka, are still in a podium position and have a shot at Gold if tomorrow’s medal race goes according to plan.

The other team in the spotlight is Great Britain’s Vita Heathcote and Chris Grube who also had a good day and pulled into second place. Great Britain has secured the single European continent spot for the Olympics available at this event.

The team from Angola, Manuela Paulo and Matias Montinho finished the event in silver fleet 5 points ahead of their qualification competition Mozambique. The Angolan team was over the moon about their qualification.

Tomorrow is the medal race for the 470 World Championships in Palma, Mallorca.
