Last day to finalize the allocation of Olympic spots.

Before we jump into the excitement that is the Final day of racing at the ILCA Senior Europeans, let's recap days 3-5.

The wind finally graced Athens on Day 3 of racing, allowing for three races to be conducted per fleet. The day commenced early, with the first warning signal scheduled for 09:00. However, the wind was unfortunately scarce and shifting, leading the Race Committee to abort the attempts. After a few hours of waiting ashore, all sailors were instructed to return to the water for racing. During the afternoon, the persistence of light and shifting wind conditions posed challenges for sailing, but racing still took place.

Day 4 saw a prolonged day of waiting - both ashore and on the water. Despite numerous attempts to get a race in, due to the light and shifting breeze conditions, Day 4 ended with no racing for any of the fleets.

On Day 5, favourable and consistent wind conditions of 8-12 knots finally arrived, enabling all fleets to complete three races. As a result, the ILCA 6 Women’s Championships now boast a total of six races, meeting the minimum requirement for the championship to be considered valid to allocate two new European spots for the Olympics.

Viktorija Andrulyte from Lithuania and Elena Vorobeva from Croatia secured these coveted spots, thus qualifying their respective countries for Paris 2024. Congratulations to both sailors!

Today is the final day of racing at the ILCA Senior Europeans. What can we expect from today...? The ILCA 6 Women’s fleet will sail a medal race today, determining who will take the podium positions. Meanwhile, spots in the ILCA 7 category remain undecided. Only five races have been completed so far. Competitors will take to the water today with the hope of completing three new races, or at least one to finalise the allocation of Olympic spots.
