SSL Nations Ranking: USA back up to 2nd

The USA’s fall off the podium in the SSL Nations Ranking didn’t last long. Having dropped to 4th in June, they’re back up to 2nd in July, and have opened up a useful points gap on France in 3rd.

Their rise back up the ranking is primarily thanks to J70 , Etchells , Melges 24 Skipper Peter Duncan (SSL #4) who has leapt up seven places in the latest ranking, thanks to his silver medal in the 2023 Melges 24 World Championship.

The jump is also helped by the USA’s strength in depth in the SSL Global Crew Ranking, with Victor Diaz de Leon continuing to command the top spot and both Erik Shampain (SSL #5) and Morgan Trubovich (SSL #6) rising three places.

Great Britain continues to hold the top spot, but their points margin over the second placed team has been cut from 35 to 27 points. Is their long reign at the top under threat?

The SSL Nations Ranking is calculated by adding the top five ranked Skippers and top two ranked Crew from each Nation in the SSL Global Ranking, to give a points total. The lower the total, the higher your Nation is ranked.
