The Star sailors never rest, nowhere in the world, not even in summer.
The World Championship finished only a couple of weeks ago, in Svendborg, Denmark, crowning Eivind Melleby (NOR) and Joshua Revkin (USA), and a few District and National Championship – plus an historic event on Lake Como – are about to happen.
In North America from this coming Saturday to Monday District 12 Champs is coming up on Seneca Lake, in New York State. It’s New England style at its best and it’s worth 250 SSL points to the winner.
From American yachting noblesse to Samba sailing, in Brasilia, on the last weekend of July there is the Brazilian National Championship, Campeonato Brasilero from 27 to 30 of July, another 250 SSL points there at stake, but you know, the Carioca are as good in the Star as they are in football, so, it’ll be no easy win.
On the same weekend, in Northen Italy on glamorous lake Como, the historic Trofeo Lillia will be held by Circolo Vela Como. One of the two most famous Star shipyard in the world, both on lake Como, organizes this regatta every year, gathering many Lillia boats from around the world, it feels like a family reunion more than a race, but beware, everyone goes there to win it!
Back to States, on the last weekend in July, District 4 Championship will be held by Racine Yacht Club, a few miles north from Chicago, on lake Michigan. Winds are usually strong around here, and temperatures mild. In North America, you can actually plan your holiday around Star events, from New York upstate, to Wisconsin and then to Seattle, for District 6 Championship on August 5 and 6. Racing in Seattle Bay is certainly a great experience, and 250 SSL points to earn and add to your Ranking total.
GP 2 is the Swedish Championship, from August 4th to 6th in Skanör, not far from Copenhagen, just a few miles south of Malmo, Skanör is a cool Swedish summer getaway and you will be able to enjoy some northern night sunshine surrounded by the warmth of the culture – not necessarily the weather…
