Star Sailors League SA Data Privacy Policy 

Star Sailors League SA (“SSL”, “us”, “we”, or “our”) organizes Star Sailors League Events, one of the pinnacle events in the sport of sailing, including SSL Finals and SSL Gold Cup and organizes and manages the SSL Global Ranking.

SSL operates the websites: https://www.starsailors.com, https://goldcup.starsailors.com/privacy-policy/, and the SSL Gold Cup National teams websites (hereinafter referred to as the “Service”).

This policy explains when and why we collect personal information, how we use it and how we keep it secure and your rights in relation to it.  This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service and the choices you have associated with that data.

We may collect, use and store your personal data, as descripted in this Data Privacy Policy and as described when we collect data from you. We use your data to provide and improve the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

  • Managing categories of events which are gender related,

  • Reporting gender information to World Sailing,

  • Managing the SSL Global Ranking,

  • Sharing events results with the hosts of the events, and providing event results to local, national and international media,

  • Allocating entries at the SSL events based on the rank of the SSL Global Ranking,

  • Posting on the SSL website, books, social media pages and using in press releases.

For the purposes of our legitimate interests in making sure that the event hosts can provide sufficient and suitable facilities including changing rooms and toilets to each gender at events.

How We Protect your Personal Data 

Your information, including Personal Data, may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ from those of your jurisdiction.

If you are located outside Switzerland and choose to provide information to us, please note that we transfer the data, including Personal Data, to Switzerland and process it there.

Star Sailors League SA will take all the steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and no transfer of your Personal Data will take place to an organization or a country unless there are adequate controls in place including the security of your data and other personal information.

We have implemented generally accepted standards of technology and operational security in order to protect personal data from loss, misuse, or unauthorized alteration or destruction. 

The security of your data is important to us but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

For any payments which we take from you online we will use a recognized online secure payment system.

Who else has access to the Information you provide Us?

How long do we keep your information? 

Star Sailors League SA will retain your Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use your Personal Data to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes and enforce our legal agreements and policies.

Star Sailors League SA will also retain Usage Data for internal analysis purposes. Usage Data is generally retained for a shorter period of time, except when this data is used to strengthen the security or to improve the functionality of our Service, or we are legally obligated to retain this data for longer periods.

We will hold your personal data on our systems for as long as you are recorded in the SSL Global Ranking, unless it is necessary for us to retain it to comply with our legal obligations or in connection with the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims. 

The SSL will retain your name, age, boat class, club, sail number for the purposes of the SSL racing results archive. 

We securely destroy all financial information once we have used it and no longer need it. 

Disclosure of Data

Under certain circumstances, Star Sailors League SA may be required to disclose your Personal Data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g. a court or a government agency).
